

Shirley Lee Corn, age 90, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Born Shirley Lee Dobbs in Southern, Illinois and raised in Dix, Illinois. She was the daughter of Edgar and Regna Dobbs. Shirley was a dedicated educator whose lifelong passion for teaching touched the lives of many. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and later her Master's in Education from the University of Central Florida (UCF).
Shirley spent the majority of her career in the Orange County School System, where she became known as a skilled and innovative grant writer. She secured numerous grants that directly benefitted her students and school. Shirley also published a beloved classroom newsletter, The Corn Cornel, and was honored as Teacher of the Year at Fern Creek Elementary in 1991.
Shirley moved to Maitland in the 1960s, where she became an active member of the community. A passionate supporter of the arts, she was a devoted patron of both the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center and the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Shirley was particularly fond of Broadway productions and was a longtime season ticket holder for her beloved Orlando Magic basketball team.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her brother Merwyn and her husband, Robert Corn. She is survived by her three sons, David Corn (Elise) of Kennesaw, GA, Bruce Corn of Orlando, FL, and Stephen Corn (Tracey) of Valrico, FL; her grandchildren, Michael Corn, Elizabeth Corn, and Kelley McCarthy; and her great-grandchildren, Alec Corn and Lesley Corn.
Shirley will be remembered for her dedication to her students, her love of learning, and her passion for the arts.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, 7520 Aloma Avenue, Winter Park, Florida 32792. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm.
Interment will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Dr, Winter Park, FL 32789.
