Alice Joyce Sangwais

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Joyce Sangwais, on August 13, 2026, at the age of 88 years. Alice was born on July 22, 1938, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, family and kindness.

Alice was known as an exceptional cook and many would say she was the best cook around. Her home was always open, her table was always full and she found great joy in feeding and caring for those she loved. She also enjoyed playing bingo and spending time at the casino, which she often referred to as her second home.

Alice was predeceased by her children: Debbie, Eunice, Iona, Bonnie, Nadine, Delia, Ernesta, Lorne and Lorne; her parents Robert E. Shavetail and Georgina Kequahtooway; sisters: Mabel George, Mary Bruce, Elizabeth Nemethi and Shirley Shavetail; brothers John Nanapay and Mike Koochicum and numerous granddaughters and grandsons.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons: Ian Sangwais, Darren Sangwais and Marlon Goodwin; her daughter Chief Lynn Accoose; special grandchildren: Haley Goodwin, Tierra (Boston) Bear, Colton (Julie) Taylor, Cody Goodwin, Colbie Goodwin, Calynnda Goodwin, Courage Goodwin, Sherelle (Lyndell) Sangwais and Alicia Sangwais; along with 57 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Alice is also survived by her sisters Phyllis McKay and Sharon Strongarm; brothers Donald (Freda) Koochicum and Billy (Norma) Koochicum; son-in-law James Cappo and her daughters-in-law Heather Sangwais and Leona Sangwais.

Alice's strength, love and devotion to her family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience and unconditional love that will continue through the many generations of her family.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Council of Zagime Anishinabek and the caring staff of 5E at Regina General Hospital for their support, compassion and care during this difficult time.

Alice will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends and community.

A wake will take place in the Zagime Anishinabek Community Complex, Zagime Anishinabek, on Monday, August 17, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will be in the same location, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 with the feast beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m, officiated by Glenn Pelletier and Elder Allan Delorme. The family requests that no children attend services.
