Alice was born on a farm near Snowflake Manitoba on June 23, 1928, the eldest of four children. She grew up in a musical family, played the piano and loved to sing particularly with her church choir. When she was 17, she became a teacher to help fill the gaps left by the war effort. She finished Grade 11, was given 6 weeks of training sent out to one of the innumerable one room schools that dotted the prairies. She returned to high school a year later, completing her Grade 12, then onto more teacher training to return to the one room schools. She taught at different locations in southern Manitoba until she met Dad and married in 1954 and took up the farming life in Saskatchewan. She and Dad took great pride in their home and maintained a beautiful property until retirement and relocation to Broadview in 1992. Mom loved flowers, knitting, baking and gardening and continued those pursuits to her last years. Mom and Dad played cribbage every evening until Dad’s passing, and often with friends. Life wasn’t always easy on the farm, but hard work, strong family values and an endless supply of love and warmth saw everyone through to a good life.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday May 18 at 11 AM at the Broadview Community Hall. A reception to follow. The Reverend Barbara Wilkins will be officiating.
