Bruce Kequahtooway

Dale Bruce Henry Kequahtooway (Little Black Bear comes from the east as the Sun is Rising), also known to many as ‘Bubba’ or ‘the Man with the crooked stick’ of Sakimay First Nation passed away peacefully in the Regina General Hospital with his loved one around him on December 28, 2021 at the age of 67 years.

He was predeceased by his father Thomas Kequahtooway; mother Marie (Sparrow) Kequahtooway; brothers: Dean Paul Kequahtooway, Wesley Kequahtooway Sr and Ronald Thomas Key; sister Bonnie Lynn Kequahtooway in infancy; wife (3 + 5) Betty and son-in-law Carter Bear (Munchkin).

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife (#7) Crystal Lange; children: Angela, Tina, Tania, Tausha, Mellisa, Joe (Jenn), Emmery Dawn (James), Rebeccka, Tia, Ally, Joey, Waylon, Dannicka, Katlin and many numerous adopted children he accepted into his life; siblings: Lindsay (Sharon), Ross, Karen (Neil), Ruth (Darcy) and Cheryl Lerat; special uncle Kush Lerat (Grace) along with Lerat and Aiscian families and many adopted brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Bruce was born on Sakimay First Nation on May 25, 1954. He was a very loving and caring man who loved all his family and friends. He was a NAADAP Worker/Family Support Worker for 25 years. He was a very traditional man and loved his farm and animals. He was a man of humor, a true clown and always doing and saying something to make someone laugh. He was also a very respectable lodge elder and was always there to help when it came to ceremonies. He loved hunting and going to the park was an adventure for him and anyone who went with him. He enjoyed being out in nature.

Bruce leaves so many beautiful memories with all who have crossed his path. He was truly one of a kind.

The wake was held in the Cowessess Hall, Cowessess First Nation on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. The funeral was held in the Cowessess Hall on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Elders officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Family requests no children at the wake. Ribbonskirts to be worn in respect.
