

Carole, of Cowessess First Nation, SK, was born on September 24,1942, and passed from this life on March 9, 2015, at the age of 72 years after a lengthy illness.
Carole lived an all-embracing life; she will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Predeceased by her father Henry Samuel Lavallee, mother Mary Ann “Bella” Lavallee and sister Sybil “Tinkerbelle” Pelletier.
Carole is survived by brothers Dr. Melvyn Ross (Dixie) of Strathmore, AB; Chief Terrance Wendel (Marjorie) of Regina, SK; and sister Shelley May “lil sis” of Regina, SK; nieces and nephews Troy, Ryan, Brandyn, Stephanie, Sashawnee, Michael, Emery, Myles, Samy-Jo; grand-children Tyrell, Triton, Jorja, Samuel, Joshua, Sage, Marcus, Edward, Laius, Lincoln, Leia, Adam. Carole loved her sibling’s children dearly and was proud of her grandchildren.
Education was a passion of Carole’s. She attended the Lebret Indian Residential School and graduated from Notre Dame, Wilcox. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education with Distinction from the University of Regina in 1971, and Master of Arts in Anthropological Education from Stanford University in 1975. She was accepted by Stanford University for Doctor of Philosophy candidacy in 1976. She lived in Palo Alto, California during her studies. She was very well educated and well travelled; and was completing her dissertation and book when she took ill. Notably, she was friends with Dian Fossey, and was internationally known with world-wide friends from her Stanford days. She had ties and friendships with the Black Panther Party, and saw Bob Marley in concert. Carole was a warrior icon for Indigenous women of the world. She loved antiques and was a collector of fine jewelry. She also researched topics such as the Indian Residential Schools, the Ghost dance Ceremony, genealogy of Cowessess First Nation and organized the Lavallee family reunion in 1996.
A Wake will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Cowessess First Nation Hall at 4:00 p.m. Traditional spiritual songs by Buffalo Lodge drum group. Prayers at 6:30 p.m. by Sister Bernadette Feist OSU.
