Christian Floyd Whitecap

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christian Floyd Whitecap (Wamni Ska i yo dunga) of Carry The Kettle First Nation, a beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend who left us on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the age of 92 years.

Floyd was born on February 7, 1934, on Carry The Kettle First Nation. He was a quiet and soft-spoken man with a heart bigger than words could describe. He was selfless, kind and always willing to help anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. He cherished his family and loved ones deeply and his greatest joy was seeing them happy. Though he was a man of few words, when he spoke, his words carried wisdom, thoughtfulness and meaning. He also had a great sense of humour and a way of making those around him laugh. His kindness, wisdom, laughter and unconditional love will forever remain in our hearts.

He was predeceased by his dad Samuel Whitecap; his mother Jean Prettyshield; his brothers Kevin (Chucky) and Gabe; sisters: Joanne, Patsy and Arlette; daughter Cleo; niece Winona; granddaughter Katelyn and grandsons Brandon and Brayden.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Diane Eashappie; his siblings: Darlene, Noreen, Gary and Dale; his children: Patrick, Colleen (Peter), Paulette, Stenella (Greg), Celinda (Ryan), Rebecca (Elton) and Denise (Richard); adopted daughter Claudene (Glenn); adopted sons Adrian and Richard Cappo and special great-grandson Lincoln. He also leaves to mourn his passing 29 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, whom he was a very proud and loving Papa to.

A private family viewing will be held in the chapel of Tubman Funeral Home in Wolseley, Saskatchewan on Thursday, September 3, 2026, followed by the wake at Floyd’s residence, Unit 35 on the Carry The Kettle First Nation at 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Community Hall on Carry The Kettle First Nation on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., with Elder Clyde O’Watch officiating. The interment will follow in South Cemetery, Carry The Kettle First Nation. The pallbearers are: Jacob Runns, Christian Witkowski, Justin Runns, Joseph Ashdohonk, Reginald Stamina and Ricky Spencer Jr. The honorary pallbearers are: Art Adams, Greg (Horse) Eashappie, James O’Watch, Jeffrey Eashappie, Karen Runns, Kurt Adams, Rolanda Eashappie, Suzie Thomson, Lorenda Spencer, Requel Rope and James (Jr) Nahnepowisk.

The family is following our traditional protocols and are asking that no children attend the wake and funeral. Thank you for your understanding.

The family wishes to acknowledge the nurses and doctors in the Renal Unit at the Regina General Hospital for taking care of Floyd during the years he was on dialysis. We would like to thank the medical van drivers Rolanda, Garth and Mathew for getting him safely to his appointments and back home. Our family also wants to extend our deepest gratitude to the home care nurses Requel, Lorenda (Sally) and Suzie for the care, compassion and support they gave Floyd over the years. Their kindness, patience and humility meant more to our family than words can express. They treated him with such dignity, respect and genuine care, becoming a special part of his life and ours. We are especially grateful for the love they showed him during his final days.
