Born on December 20, 1940 in Lethbridge, AB, Gord led a fulfilling life, leaving everyone he met with a smile. He received his education in Vulcan, AB, before beginning a long career driving truck for Canadian Freightways, Atco and finally Trimac where he worked for over 20 years, retiring in 2007. Upon his retirement, Gord and his wife, Tena, moved from Nanton, AB to Grenfell, SK, where he quickly went back to work driving a grain truck for a good friend and then bussed crews to and from the potash mines. Even after officially retiring (again), you could always find him cruising up and down the streets of Grenfell, never happier than when he was behind the wheel.
Gord was a beloved husband to wife, Tena, and a cherished father to son, Corey, and daughter, Kelly Ann (Trevor). He leaves behind his only granddaughter, Morgan, with whom he shared a connection like no other, as well as his sister Elaine and several surviving relatives and friends who will deeply miss him and the light he brought to every room. He was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Orine and his younger brother Gene.
Known for telling stories in the longest way possible, turning 39 again at every birthday, and never missing morning coffee with his buddies, Gord always had a smirk and a joke for every person he came across. He had said on multiple occasions “People aren’t like whiskey; they don’t get better with age”. But if you ask his family, he couldn’t have been more wrong - while his body aged over the years, his heart, his humor, and his love for his family and friends only grew each day. He will live on in their hearts and memories until they meet again on the other side.
The celebration of life was held in the Grenfell Cemetery on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Shirley Schlamp officiating.
