“TAKE IT EASY, KID” has been heard for the last time, as we announce the sudden, peaceful passing of Douglas “Lyle” McConnell of Whitewood, Sask and formerly of Regina, Sask. Lyle spent his working years on the road as a labourer and a jack of all trades. Drywalling was his specialty. Whatever job he had, he took great pride in his workmanship, and was very precise and particular that each job be completed with highest standards. Lyle had a quick, sharp and witty sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh. He always had a story or a joke to tell, and had a sensational memory of events and details he’d learned or experienced over his 66 years. Close to his heart was his Scottish heritage and he knew a great deal about his ancestry’s history.
Lyle lived a simple life, living day to day, not having much or not wanting much, but he would say he has everything he needs! He suffered hardship and hurdles over the years, but he never gave up, or made excuses and took responsibility for himself. He moved to Whitewood a mere 7 months ago and for once in a very long time, he said he felt settled, content and happy and his family couldn’t have asked for anything more. He enjoyed the times he spent with his great nephew, Braden, who always took time to stop for a visit and run him on some errands. So if you knew him or had ever come across his path, remember him with a smile.
He will be remembered by his children: Christopher, Colleen and Catherine and their families; his siblings: Gayle Beck, Enid (Barry) Burton and Neil (France); aunt Ellen (Jack) and his nieces and nephews and their families: Curtis (Kathryn), Bonnie (Terry), Jodi (Shawn), Tallie (Tom), Joy and Christie (Justin). Lyle was predeceased by his parents Clarence (Tib) and Edythe (McLean) and brother-in-law Bill Beck.
There will be no funeral service at his request.
