Ernie was born in the MacNutt District, SK, to William and Julia (nee Poier) Schmidt. Ernie was the oldest child having only one sister Glady. Ernie was four years old when his father died. He went to school in Landestreu country school in the MacNutt area. He continued schooling and completed grade 12 in Langenburg, SK, attended teacher’s college in Moose Jaw and taught in the Sims School District and later in Grenfell became administrator of the Grenfell and District Pioneer Home, Grenfell SK, in 1969 and remained there till retirement in 1994. Also worked for Tubman Funeral Home part time during his retirement years. Ernie enjoyed singing, flower gardening and watching football. He belonged to many health care related boards and committees throughout his life. Ernie was very dedicated and involved in the Peace Lutheran Church, serving as elder, secretary, treasurer and Sunday school teacher to name a few. Ernie was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sister Glady (Fred) Tycoles, Winnipeg, MB, and their family Joanne (Steve) Bevilacqua, Winnipeg, MB, David Tycoles, Brandon, MB, Michael (Melanie) Tycoles, Calgary, AB; Larry Mohr who was like a brother to Ernie, also extended family Doreen Mohr, Pastor Dale Mohr and three nephews Anthony, Matthew and Andrew Bevilacqua. Funeral service will be held in the Peace Lutheran Church, Grenfell, SK, on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Gerald Bruce Andersen officiating. Lunch to follow in the basement of the church. Interment to be held in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Landestreu Cemetery on Friday, July 12, 2013 around 3:30 p.m. A lunch to follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church basement, in Landestreu, SK, following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Lutheran Hour Ministries, 270 Lawrence Avenue, Kitchener, ON.,N2M 1Y4 as tokens of remembrance.
