Gilbert was raised by his Kokum Emma and auntie Doris at Zagime and later moved to Grenfell with his dad and brothers, where he attended high school. He played football in high school and loved throwing passes to his brothers for practice. Unlike his brothers, who liked to roll up their sleeves and work, Gillis was more of a thinker, always finding an easier way to get the job done. With his love for the NHL and Madden video games, gaming was his life in his earlier and later years. Gilbert was quick-witted and loved a good prank. He enjoyed a good meal, liked to share food (the Gillis chomp) and was never one to be shy about asking for a bite of sub or a burger. Mostly, Gilbert was easy-going and rarely wasted his time with anger or sadness. His smile was practically permanent. Cat loved his family. He was steadfast in his loyalty to his loved ones. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staff at Carmichael Outreach for helping Gilbert to the end of his life and Zagime Anishinabek for helping our family during our time of need.
