Harvey was much loved and we have wonderful memories.
A celebration of life was held in Wolseley Town Hall/Opera House on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Barrie Malo.
Harvey was predeceased by his parents Art and Ann Malo and two sisters and one brother.
He is survived by loving wife Marilynn (Booker) sons, Darrell (Corinne), Barrie (Ann), Jay (Tilli) and two daughters, Lori (Duane Tourscher) and Vicki. There are 15 grandchildren and their partners, 16 great grandchildren, brothers Don (Bona), Gerry, sisters Yvonne, Ruth, Joyce (Harvey Hextall), Darlene, Marion (Harvey Lonn). Harvey was a family man, loving and cherishing all.
Harvey was a very successful farmer, an Elite seed grower, actively farming all his life. He also was a contractor and carpenter, building many of the arch rafter sheds throughout the district. Harvey was renowned for building homes, businesses, and doing fine cabinetry.
Harvey worked very hard as a volunteer in the Lions Club for some 58 years. He sat on many associations such as the Flax Board and served on council and as Mayor of District of Katepwa for 9 years. He served over 20 years on various positions for the Saskatchewan Curling Association including president. He began a 5 year term for the Canadian Curling Board of Directors serving as President from 1996 to 1998 and was made Honorary Life Member in the same year. Harvey had the honour of attending the Olympics in Japan as President, the year curling was introduced to the world.
Harvey had a full and busy life, never doing anything by halves – “do a job right or don’t do it at all” was his motto. His hobbies included gardening, spending many hours in his plot down by the creek. He became the major grocery shopper knowing all the bargains and could cook up a great meal for two or 200. He loved reading and became one of the best wine makers in town. Harvey enjoyed traveling in the winter months and had many great adventures with Marilynn and his family. He was presented the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal by his Honour Russ Mirasty, Lieutenant Governor just this past winter.
Harvey enjoyed good health his whole life and found it hard to comprehend the disease that took him so quickly. We are all still in shock. He will be profoundly missed.
Donations in Harvey’s memory may be made to the Wolseley Lions Club, Box 217, Wolseley, SK S0G 5H0 or Indian Head and District Hospital Foundation, Box 1547, Indian Head, SK S0G 2K0.
