Jean was born on January 12, 1925 in Indian Head, SK, to William Spence and Margaret Fox. At a young age, while working at Cole’s Grocery Store in Wolseley, she met and married her first husband Stan Cieckiewicz on July 6, 1944. Together, they built a life on a farm south of Wolseley, where they raised their five children: Sandra (Dennis) McGonigal, Beverley (Marion) Cieckiewicz, Caroline (Gary) Morin, Vivian (Terry Hodson) Robison and Shelley (Alan) Railton.
After Stan’s passing in 1971, Jean married Lionel Dureau and became Mom to Cecelia and Glenna (Hrach) Dureau-Sargsyan. She took immense pride in her family, often sharing her joy in being blessed with 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Each one held a special place in her heart and she cherished the unique bond she shared with them all.
In 2009, she sold her home on the farm to her youngest grandson and moved to Bell Court in Indian Head. In 2023, she relocated to Hayes Haven Care Home.
Jean was looking forward to celebrating the exciting milestone of her 100th birthday, but the angels called her home just 10 days before.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Hayes Haven, Dr. Samer Iskander, the staff of Indian Head Hospital and Indian Head EMS for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to “Our Queen.”
The funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. by Rev. Francis Hengen in St. Anne's R.C. Church in Wolseley, Saskatchewan. The interment took place in St. Anne's Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in memoriam may be made to the Indian Head and District Hospital Foundation, Box 1547, Indian Head, SK S0G 2K0 or St. Anne’s Parish Cemetery Fund, Box 100, Wolseley, SK S0G 5H0.
