Lorne Stanley Debenham

Lorne was predeceased by his parents Aylmer and Elizabeth (Hahn) Debenham; his brothers Alexander and Clarence and his sisters: Shirley Debenham, Esther Whittingham, Linda Tiessen and Gladys Box.

He is survived by his brother George of Edmonton, Alberta; his sisters Margaret Quesenbury of Dallas, Texas and Jean Pady of Weyburn, Saskatchewan; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Born in Sintaluta, Saskatchewan on November 3, 1934, Lorne was the third youngest of ten children. Although he never married, he dearly loved his nieces and nephews, who enjoyed spending time at the family farm on the edge of the Qu’Appelle Valley. Uncle Lorne kept them entertained with rides on horses, motorcycles and snowmobiles, while also teaching them the many chores of farm life.

Lorne was a strong, independent man with a witty sense of humour. After high school, he worked on the pipeline and in a garage in Ontario before returning to Sintaluta to devote his life to farming. He first farmed alongside his father and uncles and later farmed on his own. He had a particular talent for repairing machinery, with many a black fingernail serving as evidence of his hard work and mechanical skills.

Upon retiring, Lorne moved to Wolseley, where he later built a new home. He lived there until his illness in the summer of 2026. A private person by nature, he had a wide range of interests. He taught himself to play the piano and guitar, completed a course in metal lathe work and even learned to fly an airplane.

Lorne enjoyed catching up with friends and neighbours at auction sales and keeping an eye on online auctions. Some of his happiest times, however, were spent returning to the farm to tend his trees, repair machinery for himself and his neighbours, inspect the crops and simply tour the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley.

A private family interment will be held in the Sintaluta Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Lorne’s memory may make a contribution to the charity of their choice.
