

The funeral mass for the late Marie Emile Bartholemy Bachelu who died on October 3, 2002, at the age of 88 years was celebrated in the Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Montmartre, Saskatchewan, Canada, on Monday, October 7, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. Ed Hengen. Interment took place in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with grandchildren being the casket bearers. Prayers were held in the church Sunday evening at 8:00 p.m.
Emile was born in the Rural Municipality of Montmartre, Saskatchewan, Canada on April 25, 1914 to Albert Marie Bachelu and Mariette (nee Ferraton) Bachelu. His parents were both born in France, Albert in Dammartin, Jura and Mariette in St. Sauveur en Rue, Loire. On October 28, 1936 he married Marie Berthe Emerentienne Giroux and together they were blessed with and raised eleven children. Emile was a farmer all his life and even upon retirement, took great pride in his gardening and the produce which he would harvest yearly. Emile's beloved wife Berthe died in 1991 and Emile continued to keep busy. Whether it was in his garden, in the house making carrot cakes or preserves, or in church and in the choir, there was always something to do. Emile was also famous for his bike riding. He made many a mile through the years and was a familiar sight on the streets of Montmartre. His warm smile, twinkling eyes and friendly way will be missed by all who knew him.
Emile was predeceased by his wife Berthe in 1991, his son in law Keith Sullivan and two brothers Henri and Maurice. His memory will be cherished by his eleven children: Herve (Evelyn) Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; Roland (Mary Anne), Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; Diana (Leo) Clarkin, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Armand (Betty) Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; Marcel (Marge) Kendal, Saskatchewan, Canada; Yvette (Len) Sebastian, Caledon, East Ontario, Canada; Jocelyne Bachelu, Vancouver, B.C., Canada; Laurette (Bill) Keen, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada; Anita (Paul) Chorneyko, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; Lilliane (Tom) Romanow, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada; and Denis(Lori), Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Emile is also survived by 30 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as one sister Marie Therese Giroux of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
