

Norma Winnifred Hextall (nee Swanston) passed away suddenly on October 19, 2006. The funeral service was held in the Grenfell United Church, Grenfell, Sask., on Monday, October 23, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. with Lynette Callfas officiating. Interment of cremated remains in the Grenfell Cemetery.
Born in Sperling Manitoba on February 28, 1927, Norma Winnifred Hextall (nee Swanston) passed away suddenly Oct. 19. Born in Sperling Manitoba, February 28, 1927, Norma grew up in the Peace River district of Northern Alberta. Educated at the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg) and the University of Alberta (Edmonton) in both Home Economics and Dietetics, Norma began her career as a dietician at the Regina General Hospital and later taught Home Economics and Family Life Education at Grenfell High School. She also acted as a consultant to the Saskatchewan Department of Education in designing the provincial Family Life Curriculum. Norma was recognized by her peers for outstanding work in her profession by being awarded “The Federation Award” by the Canadian Home Economics Association and an “Honorary Life Membership” by the Saskatchewan Home Economics Teachers’ Association. She is survived by her husband Lorne Hextall, children Blair (Rochelle Dobni), Nancy (Brian Hodgson), Jack (Kim) and grandchildren Michael and Katie Hodgson, Andy and Jessica Hextall. She is also survived by her brothers Jack and Don Swanston, sister-in-law Ethel Box and their families.
