Vince was born to Rubert and Lois (Holmberg) Fredlund on October 22, 1945. He grew up on a farm ten miles north of Whitewood, Saskatchewan and was the youngest boy with six siblings. He went to Lunby school and took High School in Whitewood, SK. Farming was his passion. He started farming with his dad at age 17. A few years later he was introduced to working with heavy equipment, clearing bush for farmland with the Howard Brothers.
On October 24, 1970, Vince made the best decision of his life in marrying Mary Ann Heinrich! They had two sons, Aaron (1971) and Bruce (1973). In March 1978, they adopted two girls, Crystal (1975) and Jill (1976).
Oak Haven, the family farm had something for everyone to do. We planted different grain crops, had pure bred Salers herd, raised Airedale dogs, had big gardens and a variety of fruit trees. We also showed cattle at Brandon Ag – Ex and Regina Exhibition and 4H.
As empty nesters, we sold the farm. For seven years we raised pure bred Boer goats to keep our valley home quarter neat and tidy. We also started spending our winters in BC, 15 in Kelowna and 5 in Osoyoos.
In 2007, Vince used his heavy equipment experience to work at Fort Hills mine in Fort McMurray, AB until Petro Can sold out to Sun Core. He then took back his job at the RM of Willowdale operating grader and mower.
At the age of 17, his relationship with God became real to him after the passing of his mother. He became active in the church. He loved to lead worship and sing solos at weddings and funerals. Through his whole life he relied on God. God gave him the tenacity to endure 21 years of “after effects” from severe internal radiation burns which finally took his life.
He will be remembered for his bright smile and quick wit. He loved sharing stories of funny experiences and the many mishaps his dad had. He also leaves us a large bank of wonderful memories that family and friends can draw from.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann; Aaron, Chase and Faith; Bruce (Erin), Caius, Warner and Holden; Crystal, Kelli and Blake; Jill (Mark), Tallin, Kashis, Kiro, Adriel and Leah; Miles (Pascal) and Quillo; his siblings: Sonia (Bill), Milton, Joanne (Wayne) and Alden and many nieces and nephews.
Waiting for him on the other side is his granddaughter Gracie, grandson Anthony and many others.
As per his wishes, we will have a gathering in his honor at a later date. His interment will be in the Swedish Evangelical Mission Church, Stockholm, Saskatchewan. Charitable donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse Canada, 20 Hopewell Way NE, Calgary, AB T3J 5H5.
Just at the moment we hear “He is gone!”
We REMEMBER there are eyes watching and voices saying “He is here!”*
