Walter was born on March 9, 1927 in Indian Head Saskatchewan. Walter began working for the Experimental Farm in Indian Head until he enlisted in the army. Following the end of WWII, he returned to work at the Experimental Farm until he retired with 41 years of service. In 1952 he met Audrey Graham and the two were married in 1954 and remained in Indian Head to raise their four children before moving to Regina in 2014. Walter was a member of the Indian Head Legion and in 1978 he represented Saskatchewan in the Legion Senior Men’s Curling Championship held in Regina. He participated in numerous golf and curling competitions, while being a member of the Indian Head Golf Course and Curling Club. He also loved playing bridge and crib, bowling, billiards, going to dances with Audrey, spending time at the cabin at Lake Katepwa, and visits with family and friends. Following his retirement, they were fortunate to be able to travel with many trips around the world. Walter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and was so proud of all their accomplishments. Walter’s quick wit and great sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him.
Walter’s life will be celebrated in a private family service and interment at the Indian Head Cemetery.
Thank you to Dr. Van Heerden, the amazing staff and volunteers on the Veteran’s Ward 3-5 at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre for the excellent care he received in the last three years.
