Great grandchildren: Owen, Fred, Juliette, Willa Arnot; Francis McPartlin; Martha Arnot.
She was predeceased by her husband Gerry in 2015. She was truly devoted to Gerry, as he was to her, for the 68 years they enjoyed together.
Yvonne was born to parents Matthew and Margaret Elliot. She grew up in Milestone, SK, where her father Matthew established Elliot the Druggist. She regaled us with interesting and funny stories about the pharmacy. She met Gerry in Regina and they were married on September 17, 1947. They lived in Saskatoon while Gerry attended university and Vonne worked at Birks until 1951. She enjoyed this very much, as she always had a keen eye for fashion and trends. Gerry and Vonne moved to Brandon, Manitoba and began their family, returning to Saskatchewan in 1960. Vonne was a truly loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was loved in return. Her love of family was demonstrated in the great interest she took in their accomplishments. She was a positive influence in her family’s lives and their biggest cheerleader. She had a wonderful sense of humour, an infectious laugh, and blue eyes that sparkled with warmth. Her grandchildren fondly remember the many hours they spent playing with her. She had incredible patience and a relaxed nature. She was an avid reader for many years and was astutely aware of current events, world politics, and sports of every type. She was a very strong supporter of women’s rights and calmly expressed her well-reasoned opinion on many topics, maintaining a sharp mind to the end. Gerry and Vonne retired to the Qu’Appelle Valley, where she spent all of her summers throughout childhood. The valley always held a special place in her heart. She was truly blessed to be well cared for by her daughter Jerri Lynn, son-in-law Kevin, Stephen, and Beth in their home. Her gentle character is indelibly etched in our memory, and will continue to guide us in our lives.
A memorial service for the family was held at Lakeview Cemetery, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK on July 28, 2020.
