Yvonne was born November 10, 1926 in Montmartre, the youngest of Hippolyte & Eveline Martel. She grew up on the farm north of town and attended school here. She worked in Montmartre until she married Leo Briere in 1949. They had four children Hector, Evelyn, Frank and Leona.
Yvonne was a homemaker for many years until she lost her husband in 1968. She then started working (cleaning) at the convent school. In 1972 she lost her youngest daughter Leona. In 1974 Yvonne re-married Peter Hozempa and moved to the farm south of Glenavon where she enjoyed farm life, gardening & quilting. In 1999 they retired and moved to Glenavon and did a lot of traveling. In 2012 she lost a grandson Cody. Then in 2013 Yvonne was alone again when Pete passed away. She stayed in Glenavon until 2015 when she moved to Montmartre to be closer to her daughter for help. In 2017 she went into a personal care home in Regina. Then in 2018 she came back home to the care home in Montmartre, where she stayed until her passing on August 20, 2021.
Yvonne is survived by her children: Hector (Bev) Briere, Evelyn (Ken) Keller and Frank (Bonnie) Briere; step-children Sharon (Dave) Hall and Brian Hozempa; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass was celebrated in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Montmartre on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Gerard Joy Montiague. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.
