Al was born to Jack and Lola Voss in Adrian, MN and later adopted by parents Donald and Mary Jane Olson in Minneapolis, MN. After Al graduated from Southwest High School in 1970 he went on to St. Cloud State University, receiving his degree in 1977.
Al started his first job as a carpenter and later began his 31 year career with the City of Minneapolis.
In 1974, Al met Mary Ellen Olson (nee Riley) in Edina, MN. Al and Mary Ellen married in 1976 and went on to have Erik Allan in 1979 and Jennifer Lynn in 1982.
In 2017, Al retired as Manager of Inspections for the City of Minneapolis and spent his time with the love of his life, Mary Ellen. He hunted, traveled to visit Jennifer and her family abroad, and attended just about every one of his grandkids' hockey and ball games.
Al was predeceased by his biological parents, Jack and Lola Voss and parents Donald and Mary Jane Olson. He is survived by wife of 48 years Mary Ellen Olson (nee Riley), brothers, Dennis (Darlene) Voss, David (Diane) Voss, and Dean (Janet) Voss, sisters, Peggy (Nory) Hunze and Jane (Bob) Riley, children, Erik (Angela) Olson and Jennifer (Freddy) Munoz, and grandkids, Emma (Ethan), Esperanza, Conner, Colin, Laydon, and Stella and countless other family and friends who adored Al’s quiet, fun, and peaceful nature.
Memorial Mass will be Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 11 am with Visitation one hour prior to service, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose of Woodbury, 4125 Woodbury Dr., Woodbury, MN 55129. A luncheon will immediately follow Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New Richmond Youth Hockey Association, made payable through Venmo to "@NRYHA-Love2Skate"
