I recently retired and was trying to look up old friends, typed in Kurts name and saw his obituary.  You are the lucky ones to spend life with Kurt. We spent time together at Moorhead Tech. After partying, we went to Country Kitchen, Kurt always ordered a "Big Juicy Rutabagie". The waitress went to the kitchen and the cook said Kurt is here! We met at the Minnesota state fair and enjoyed cut up fruit from Kurt. Mike Flaten, 2764 Mistwood Court, Grand Forks, ND 58201

I think of  Curt as a person with the biggest smile and the friendliest personality. What a great legacy . 

It was a pleasure knowing Curt. I miss him already.

What a beautiful tribute to Curt!  His legacy of  love expressed  by his wife Loree, sons Travis and Tyler and his brother John,  causing me to believe that it wasn't a joke.  He  really was 'Mr. Wonderful."   

I am so sorry to hear of Curt's passing. He was always smiling, made everyone around him feel happy and welcome.

"Curtie" (as my brother Mike would call him, as he was his best friend) was more than a cousin, he was another big brother!  The Wally's-BT Hilgers kids spent so many loving memories together, we were so blessed.  Curt had a great smile, laugh made you filled with gratitude of his love of life and people.  Memories of camping, the basement in Moorhead boxing, or the time he and my brother Mike shot one of Gramma's prized chickens, sitting in an evergreen, because they thought it was a pheasant-makes me smile in this time of grief.  God bless Curt and all his family, he was special and will be missed.  Brian Hilgers    

When my husband Dan (Curt's cousin) was in VietNam the whole Wally Hilgers clan welcomed me into their home and treated me like another sibling. Curt was such a giant next to my 5ft 1 in. height and his shoes were even bigger.  I can remember putting my feet, (shoes and all) inside his tennis shoes and clomping around to his fits of laughter.  He was one of my big brothers during those tough times and his huge smile will remain in my heart forever.


Uncle Curt’s laugh, humor and most of all, his dance moves, will forever be wonderful memories of my childhood!  Spending years working at the fair together, anxiously awaiting his arrival at the small stands with a two-wheeler full of fruit cups and a huge, warm smile!  Love you forever uncle Curt! ❤️

Curt was a funny and entertaining guy. I remember him making deliveries at the fair, he knew every vendors name, and then coming back to the stand and giving me a hard time because I had Tab in the cooler. He was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his children and all his nieces and nephews. We have great memories and know he will be missed. 

I had the immense privilege of getting to know Kurt when his wonderful son, Travis, married my dear cousin,  Natalie. His laugh and zest for life filled a room, blending with the larger than life personalities we cherish in our family in minutes. Kurt was an excellent story teller with a contagious laugh, filling the room with joy and love. I am so very sorry for your loss Hilgers family. I count myself lucky to have known Kurt for a short while and I look forward to getting to know his memory even better through the wonderful shared personality traits that shine through Travis, especially as Travis and Natalie welcome their child in February.

I got the pleasure of gaining Curt as the coolest family member when Travis married my sister. Curt’s infectious humor made us buddies from the get go. His laugh, his stories, and the warmth he brought to a room was unlike anyone’s I’ve ever met. I wish I got more time to spend with him,  he was one of a kind. You will be missed Curt, love you. 

We are just one of Curt’s Burnsville neighbors.  It was hard for us when he and his boys moved from this area but happy he had an exciting life ahead of him.  When my husband was away on hunting and fishing trips Curt came to my rescue when my car headlights went out or my cat brought home a snake.  He was a great guy with an infectious smile. No more pain and rest well.

Many good memories with Curt and all... the Hilgers clan brought joy and (for me ,enough to make a ball team or whatever)Iknow he made  me laugh (was he the mischief one,or were we all?)....Peace Curt and comfort to all my old playmates......Alan Peppel

What a happy-go-lucky soul Curt was.  Certainly a little "devilish" which added to the intrigue of knowing him & loving him.  May he be at peace as his Dad & many others welcome him in the "Pearly Gates."  He will be remembered fondly.  Much love, fun nephew!

We are so sad to hear about Curt passing away.  We got to know Curt and the rest of Wally & Lillie's wonderful family through Curt's brother John, who has been a dear friend for many years.  Curt was always so fun and always made everyone laugh -- he was the life of the party.  Our deepest sympathy to all of Curt's loved ones -- he will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Willie was a friend of my husband, Steve (Spook as known to Willie). He was in our wedding on 11/24/79. He was so disappointed that Steve would choose deer hunting opener as his wedding date.  No doubt they are enjoying one another’s company in heaven! Please accept my deepest condolences.

A man that always had a bright smile . Always friendly to everyone . Loved his family  with all his heart . Will be missed by all that knew him . Are thoughts and prayers  to all the family . 

So sorry to hear about the loss of Curt. I remember him fondly when I was growing up! I will definitely miss seeing him in October when he came to visit to check on his deer stands! We called him him "The Pepsi Man"! We had great laughs with him.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. We will miss his smiling face, jokes and all the good times. He was a GREAT friend and will be missed LOTS.
