Dale Raymond Rodell

Dale Rodell, a devoted husband, father, teacher, and friend, passed away January 11, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. Dale touched the lives of many through both his career and the simple joys he shared with those closest to him.

Dale was born on February 25, 1940 to parents Richard and Dorothy Rodell in Superior, WI. Born with a sharp mind and a dry sense of humor, Dale spent his career as a biology teacher at Burnsville High School, where he inspired generations of students to appreciate the wonders of science. He retired in 1997, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity and learning.

In 1973 Dale married the love of his life, Darlys Koenen, and together they built their home in Apple Valley, MN. It was a life filled with love, laughter, and family. They raised two wonderful daughters, Jennifer and Erica, who were the center of his world. Nothing brought Dale greater joy than spending time with his loved ones up north at his cabin on Ruth Lake in Emily, MN whether it was enjoying a peaceful evening pontoon ride, playing a round of cribbage with his daughters, or a late night bonfire by the lake.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife and many dear friends. He is survived by his children Jennifer Prestegaard (husband Matthew and children Maren and Anna), and Erica Brown (husband Dave and children Greta, Abigail and Rebecca), his siblings Richard Rodell (wife Sue), James Rodell (wife Sandy) and John Rodell (wife Alice) as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family on both the Rodell and Koenen side.

Dale’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of Dale’s life will be planned later this spring up North in Emily and information will be posted on this page. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to MN Lakes and Rivers (mnlakesandrivers.org) to help support the environment that brings us all together.
