Jim was born in Davenport, IA and was the oldest of 5 children born to Spencer and Rose Fleming. He married Karen Louise Haman on June 6, 1959. Jim enjoyed a long and successful 42-year career as an accountant for Burlington Northern Railway, relocating from Chicago, IL to St. Paul, MN before his retirement in 1995. Jim was a brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law and friend to many.
Jim loved trains, which made his career with Burlington Northern Railway especially meaningful. Jim enjoyed traveling with his family when the kids were young and continued his travels with Karen during their retirement years. His favorite football team was ‘Da Bears’ and his favorite baseball team was the Minnesota Twins. Whether watching them live at Spring Training in Fort Myers, FL, Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, MN, Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN, or Target Field in Minneapolis, Jim was a loyal supporter – who also seemed just as happy watching from his favorite recliner at Marnie Street with the remote and a Diet Pepsi nearby. Jim’s favorite pastimes were Poker with the “guys”, Sudoku, and heading to the Casino with Karen.
Jim thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was known to attend baseball games, soccer games, plays, baptisms, graduations, Eagle Scout ceremonies, weddings, Easter Brunch, Apple Orchard, and every family celebration in between.
Jim is survived by Karen, his devoted wife of almost 67 years; his children: Chris (Debbie), Annita Fleming-Bending (Dale) and Tim (Jenny); seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, three of his siblings, and his oldest son Jim Jr.
