Despite having several serious health conditions, Ken persevered for many years to maintain his independence.
On June 12, 1941, Ken was born to Roy & Frances Schwarten. In his youth, Ken grew up in the Midway area of St. Paul and graduated from Wilson high school. Ken did his military service in the Army and had several fond memories of his duty assignments while stationed in Germany. Ken had a long career and retired from Deluxe Corporation where he worked in the shipping and receiving department. After retirement, Ken worked at his friend’s manufacturing business doing maintenance along with proudly working each season at the Minnesota State Fair’s security gate.
Ken was a lover of all things Minnesota -especially Gopher Athletics, NASCAR- Tony Stewart being his favorite driver, cooking shows, his manicured lawn, & of course “THE” State Fair. His hobbies included golfing, curling, and helping in his friend’s garage shop.
Ken unknowingly had a knack for being somewhat polarizing and if you were to ask him, he was the unofficial book of knowledge regarding all things. Ken was often opinionated and stubborn but he was also just as hard working, caring, dependable, loyal, and loving in his own way.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Frances, and younger brother Ronald. He is survived by his children, Timothy and Sherri (James), and four grandchildren James, Alexander, Nicholas, & Josephine.
Graveside prayers & military honors will be held on Tuesday July 8th at 10:45am at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55450.
