I am so sorry for your loss.  I was a student at Mounds Park Elementary where he taught for many years.  I had him as a teacher when my teachers were gone for the day or at meetings.  He was my gym teacher also.  He was one of the best-we need more teachers like him today.  
You could always hear him, standing at his classroom door and making sure we respected ourselves, the teachers and he gave us the crave to learn and to always question.  He was a great teacher. I am sorry for your loss.  Mr. Orbell is the reason I became an educator and school administrator.  He made me want to be a better person, reaching my full potential in every aspect of academia and life. (He was my 6th grade teacher at Daytons Bluff) His legacy will live on in the hearts and deeds of his students. 
I will always have fond memories of George and the Reluctant Dragon video (I played the Mother) and of corse, gum on my nose.

You and uncle Tex were like my second set of parents with RJ as a big brother & Rich a little brother to me while growing up.  You gave me so many opportunities and I hope so much you know how grateful I am for everything.  There were so many fun times and great memories with your entire family.  Tex was always telling me to let him know if I needed anything.  He always teased me by calling me his "BN", Beautiful Niece.

Your family is truly amazing and I will miss my uncle Tex very much.

Mr. Orbell was one of my favorite teachers are Mounds Park Elementary.  I have fond memories of his class, even the gum on the nose thing!  He touched many lives and I respected him greatly.

Mr. Orbell was my 6th grade teacher at Daytons Bluff, and he was a great teacher, tough but fair. I remember running into him a few times at Shinder's bookstore in downtown St. Paul and it always surprised but pleased me when he remembered me. Also to the ones who mentioned the gum on the end of your nose, I remember that experience very well (maybe too well) I didn't learn the first time. He will be greatly missed. My sympathies to his whole family.

Mr. Orbell was one of my favorite teachers while at Dayton's Bluff and one that will always stand out for me. 

He was fair, stern, and wanted his students to be all that they could be and more, even if we didn't know it at the time.

May his family find some comfort in knowing he touched thousand of lives while he was a teacher and we will never forget his stern, yet loving demeanor.

Mr. Orbell was and will always be one of the most influential men in my life. I am grateful that he was a part of my eductional journey. I would not know how to turn a corner and remain in a straight line in a parade if it weren't for him! I can still hear his voice as we marched around Dayton's Bluff. "Left, Left. You were told to stay home but you left." Here's to you Ray!

I was sad to hear about Ray's death.  Our Senior Book Club will not be the same without "Tex".  Sending my prayers and thoughts.

Orbell family, my deepest sympathy extended to you. Mr. Orbell was my 6th grade teacher at Dayton's Bluff.  He was by far one of my favorite teachers.  He taught with great passion and ran an orderly classroom.  Which looking back was quite an accomplishment with some of us rug rats.  I have fond memories of Mr. Orbell telling us his stories and that incredible smile of his.  Rest in Peace Mr. Orbell.

To the Orbell family: I remember meeting Ray many times when he and my father taught together at Dayton's Bluff.  My dad always liked Ray and I could see why - he was always very kind to me and even encouraged me to attend Mankato State University back in the early 1980s.  My deepest condolences to your family.

Mr. Orbell was one of my favorite teachers. I had him in 6th grade at Dayton's Bluff. I was excited to run into him a year or so ago at a Woodbury Soccer game where his grandson was playing. I introduced myself and he said he remembered me; that totally made my day, considering it had been nearly 30 years that I was in his class! He was a wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Ray was such a wonderful and delightful man.  His smile was the first thing I always noticed as it seemed it was always there. Mr. Orbell was my 4th grade teacher at Mounds Park Elem.  He was a cool guy--I've still thought about him over the many years since then!

Dear Nancy and family,  CSM Harley Kaiser passed the notice of Ray's passing on to me and asked if I remembered him.  I certainly did although it has been many years.  I served with Ray in the 205th Brigade back in the 70's and recalled that he was a fine officer whom I respected greatly and enjoyed being around.  My thoughts are with you as you lay this fine soldier to rest.

So sorry to hear that, I loved Mr Orbell. I went to Mounds Park and Daytons Bluff. My mom worked there also, Diane Krogseng Middleton. He always made me laugh when he would get mad at a student. Mostly because he never got mad at me.
