Richard Michael Miller "Mike", 85, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2020 at his home in Savage, MN. He was born November 21, 1934 in Arvada, CO, to Richard and Carrie Miller. He was married for 43 years to his beloved wife, Marian J. Miller.
Mike lived a full life. In his early years he worked as a wrangler at the Denver Stock Yards and for the local electrical company. He took the civil service test and was accepted into the U.S. Border Patrol in 1957. He was stationed at Rio Grande City, TX, Bonners Ferry, ID, Pembina, ND, and Detroit, MI. He transitioned to a Travel Control Officer and then an Immigration Examiner. In 1974, he became the Asst. Regional Commissioner in St. Paul, MN. His final transfer was to Washington D.C. in 1983 as Deputy Assistant Commissioner. He and Marian retired to Williamsburg, VA where they lived when they weren’t traveling the world. They returned to Minnesota in 2018 to be closer to family.
Mike is survived by his wife, Marian; daughters Cheryl Zombo (Patrick), Kim Mangan (Mark), Toni Nuernberg (Douglas) and Tracy Allen (Michael); grandchildren Ryan Zombo, Melissa Bice, Crystal Arnold, Cody Nuernberg and Kiley Simonson; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters Sally Poitz and Ruth Morton; and step-brother Duane Miller.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister Cindy Mativi; daughter Vicki Moyer; and grandson Jason Moyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested in Mike’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements with private inurnment are being handled by Wulff Funeral Home.
