Veteran ~ Age 93
Robert William Borchert died suddenly in Woodbury on April 1, 2012. Born October 19, 1918 in Minnesota Lake, MN he spent his youth in Mapleton, MN and Boulder, CO. After graduating from Mapleton High School he attended Dunwoody Institute and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis before moving to Chicago, IL. In 1950 he married Mary Jane Park of Chicago and worked in the industrial hardware business as a sales executive until he retired in 1989. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII from 1941-1945. He became a B-29 pilot, flying 13 combat missions in the Pacific Theatre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nell; his sister, Grace Putnam; brother, Richard; his wife of fifty years, Mary Jane. He is survived by sons, Scott (Dayna Lightfoot) and R. Park (Fung Yee); granddaughter, Lydia; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hogan; nieces, Jill Borchert, Michelle Weinstein; nephews, Jon Borchert, Michael Hogan; other relatives and friends. He was loved by family and friends who enjoyed his company and his concerns about the stock market, sports and, most importantly, his family. He particularly enjoyed the community at the Stonecrest Senior Living Center where he lived for the past 12 years. He had many friends there who provided conversation, activities and the Men’s Club coffee hour each Monday morning, which he rarely missed. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorial service 1 pm Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Stonecrest Center Chapel, 8725 Promenade Lane, Woodbury. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Presbyterian Homes Foundation-Stonecrest.
