Jose Luis Aguilar Bustos

Jose Luis Aguilar Bustos was born on August 17, 1941 to Maria Guadalupe Aguilar Bustos and Ignacio Aguilar Lopez. He passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on October 12, 2024 in Visalia, California surrounded by his family.

He was originally from Palo Alto, Jalisco, Mexico. In 1967, he moved to Tijuana, Baja California, where he met his wife, Socorro Aguilar. They married in 1968, and then moved to Woodlake, California where they purchased a home in hopes of giving their children a better life. They began their family and had three sons and two daughters. They are George, Victor, Jose Jr., Maricela and Mariel. All of them attended and graduated from Woodlake High School where several excelled in sports leaving his Aguilar name as a legacy in the community.

Jose was a great husband and father. He and Socorro met in a pitch-black movie theatre where Jose came up to her to ask her out. She could not really see his face but agreed to go on the date. She had hoped that when she saw him, he would be good looking and recognize her. Apparently, he was because this year they celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Recently, the family came together to celebrate his 83rd birthday. The family gathered to eat, talk, hang out and sing him happy birthday at his son’s ranch. On that day he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and various friends of the family.

Jose was responsible, hardworking and a great provider. His family never went without and he would do anything for them. He spent his years in Woodlake working for various local ranchers and packinghouses as a ranch hand, forklift driver and handyman. He had a strong work ethic and instilled that in others. When his grandsons would come around on weekdays, he would say, “Why arent’ you working? Today is a work day!” In his eyes, every day was a workday.

Jose’s passion was his horses and Mexican rodeos. His first horse was Six Pack and his current horse’s name is Drifter. According to his son Junior, Drifter was his best friend who he spent most of his days tending. He was strong until his very last day, even seen moving hay on his son’s property where he kept Drifter.

His family fondly remembers his laughter and he was a known jokester, always ready with a funny story or joke to tell. His favorite saying was “Oh boy!” He enjoyed bonfires with a cold one, and family get-togethers. He was always well dressed and groomed, daily sporting his pressed pants, cowboy boots and a polished buttoned-down Western shirt, never leaving the house without his cowboy hat and his hair slicked back.

He will forever be missed and never forgotten by his family, friends and loved ones.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Olivier and Jorge. He is survived by his wife Socorro, his children George (Isabel), Victor, Jose Jr.(Becky), Maricela and Mariel(Nick). He is also survived his siblings, Raul, Ofelia, Leticia, Yolanda and Magdalena. He has thirteen grandkids (Jordyn, Tisyn, Logan, Gannon, Vanessa, Brandon, Derek, Hailey, Harper, Lukas, Tori, Devyn, Kayne), and three great grandkids (Carsyn, Camryn and Chloey).

José Luis Aguilar Bustos nació el 17 de agosto de 1941, hijo de Ignacio Aguilar López y María Guadalupe Bustos de Aguilar. José falleció inesperadamente pero pacíficamente el 12 de octubre de 2024 en Visalia, California, rodeado de su familia.

Él era originario de Palo Alto, Jalisco, México. En 1967 se mudó a Tijuana, Baja California, donde conoció a su esposa, Socorro. Se casaron en 1968 y luego se mudaron a Woodlake, California. En Woodlake compraron una casa con la esperanza de darles a sus hijos una mejor vida. Formaron su familia y tuvieron tres hijos y dos hijas siendo sus ellos George, Víctor, José Jr., Maricela y Mariel. Todos ellos asistieron y se graduaron de Woodlake High School, donde varios se destacaron en los deportes dejando su nombre Aguilar como legado en la comunidad.

José fue un gran esposo y padre. Él y Socorro se conocieron en un cine a oscuras donde José se acercó a ella para invitarla a salir. Ella realmente no podía ver su rostro, pero aceptó ir a la cita. Había esperado que cuando lo viera, él sería guapo y la reconocería. Al parecer lo fue, ya que este año celebraron 56 años de matrimonio.

Recientemente, la familia se reunió para celebrar su 83 cumpleaños de José. La familia se reunió para comer, hablar, pasar el rato y cantarle el feliz cumpleaños en el rancho de su hijo. Ese día fue muy lindo y José estuvo rodeado de sus hijos, nietos y amigos de la familia.

José era responsable, trabajador y un gran proveedor para su familia. A ellos nunca les faltó nada y él hacía cualquier cosa por ellos. Pasó sus años en Woodlake trabajando con varios ganaderos y empacadoras locales, como peón de rancho, conductor de montacargas y personal de mantenimiento. Tenía una sólida ética de trabajo que inculcó en los demás. Cuando sus nietos venían entre semana, les decía: “¿Por qué no estás trabajando? ¡Hoy es un día de trabajo! Para el, cada día era un día de trabajo.

La pasión de José eran sus caballos y los rodeos mexicanos. Su primer caballo fue Six Pack y el nombre de su caballo actual es Drifter. Según su hijo Junior, Drifter era su mejor amigo a quien pasaba la mayor parte de sus días atendiendo. Fue fuerte hasta el último día e incluso se le vio moviendo paja en la propiedad de su hijo donde guardaba a Drifter.

Su familia recuerda con cariño sus risas, él era un bromista conocido, siempre listo con una historia divertida o un chiste que contar. Su dicho favorito era "¡Oh, boy!" Disfrutaba de las fogatas con una fría y de las reuniones familiares. Siempre estaba bien vestido y arreglado, luciendo diariamente sus pantalones planchados, botas de vaquero y una camisa occidental pulida y abotonada, y nunca salía de casa sin su sombrero de vaquero.

Su familia, amigos y seres queridos siempre lo extrañan y nunca lo olvidarán.

A José le precedieron en la muerte sus padres y sus hermanos Olivier y Jorge. Le sobreviven su esposa Socorro, sus hijos George(Isabel), Víctor, José Jr.(Becky), Maricela y Mariel(Nick). También le sobreviven sus hermanos Raúl, Ofelia, Leticia, Yolanda y Magdalena. Tiene trece nietos (Jordyn, Tisyn, Logan, Gannon, Vanessa, Brandon, Derek, Hailey, Harper, Lukas, Tori, Devyn, Kayne) y tres bisnietos (Carsyn, Camryn y Chloey).
