I met Blandon in mid-November, 2016.  My wife, Joan MacKeith, was the marketing and public relations director for an architectural-design firm in Manhattan.  She had frequently made use of Blandon's talents as a photographer. When I needed a photo to be used in conjunction with my professional profile and for social media sites, Joan recommended Blandon.  We met only once, and Blandon took several excellent photos of me in Carl Schurz Park on Manhattan's Upper East Side. It was a beautiful, sunny fall day. I felt completely at ease with Blandon from the beginning, and his suggestions regarding basic elements such as posing and lighting were spot on. He was very warm, forthright and engaging, and I remembered him thereafter as appearing much younger than his years.  

We were planning to work together again quite recently.  I had requested his help in connection with an attempt to enhance a World War 2 - era photograph of a woman who was a nurse during the 1944 uprising by the Polish Home Army against the Germans in Warsaw.  This person bore a very strong resemblance to my late mother, but I couldn't be certain.  

Suddenly, when we were about to initiate the project,  I lost touch with Blandon.  It was only when Joan informed me that he had passed away that I understood. 

Even though we had only met and spoken for a couple of hours, Blandon had left a very strong and positive impression on me.  I was stunned to learn that he had died, and felt a strong sense of loss. I still use the photo that he took of me as my official online profile picture. 

I met Blandon but once, for a photo shoot. It's rare for such a passing meeting to stick with you, but with Blandon, it did: he was such a sweet, thoughtful, kind person (with such a great eye) that what should have been a boring work afternoon turned into a lovely walk around the waterfront, learning to see buildings in a way I never had before. He made New York a kinder, gentler place.
