

Gerald K. O’Reilly of Flushing, New York passed away on September 29, 2023, after battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born October 26, 1944, in Manhattan, NY and subsequently moved to Levittown, NY at the age of nine. He attended Abbey Lane Elementary, Wisdom Lane Middle School and graduated from Levittown Memorial High School in 1963. After working for the US Post Office in Hicksville NY and Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage NY he was drafted into the US Army. He served in the Artillery Branch from January 1966 to January 1968 and deployed to the Republic of South Korea. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and earned the US Army Commendation Medal. Upon discharge, he used the GI bill to earn a Bachelor of Arts in History from SUNY Geneseo in 1976. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Education from City University of New York and went on to become a Special Education Teacher at Seward Park High School in the New York City School System retiring in 2009. In 1993 he was awarded Teacher of the Year from the Council for Exceptional Children. Mr. O’Reilly was a longtime faithful supporter and sponsor of many children’s charities including St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriner’s, Smile Train and Unbound.org of which he had two children he proudly sponsored for 18 years.
He was predeceased by his father Thomas Sr, mother Dorothy, brother Thomas Jr. (Carole) and survived by brothers Terrence (Susan) of Sunrise, Florida brother Kenneth (Ginger) Bonita Springs, Florida, and a sister Diane (Stephen) of Sunrise, Florida.
A gathering for Gerald will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Conway Funeral Home, 41-45 58th Street, Woodside, NY 11377. A mass of christian burial will occur Friday, October 27, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at St Michael Roman Catholic Church, 136-76 41st Ave, Flushing, NY 11355. A committal service will occur Friday, October 27, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at St Michaels Cemetery, 72-02 Astoria Blvd. S, East Elmhurst, NY 11370.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation or any Children’s Charities of your choice.
