Ms. Gladys (Nanny) Wolfe, Dedicated Wife, Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, was born June 14, 1921 in Northport, NY. She departed this life at age 93 in God’s hands from natural causes.
A wonderful example of faith, hope, and strength, as a wife, involved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she was born to the late John Townsend and Flossie Lewis. She cherished and often shared her happiest childhood memories of her late Brother Lawrence Townsend, Sister Margaret Townsend, who both preceded her in death at early ages. She attended Northport High School, and later became a daycare provider and domestic worker. She labored and loved her family, and was well-respected by her employers, community, and friends. Gladys married George Wolfe Jr. in 1941 and they made their home in Corona, New York. Gladys and George later moved their growing family of 7 children, 5 girls and 2 boys, to reside
in Woodside, New York.
Gladys accepted Christ as her personal savior and was a faithful member of The Salvation Army Church in Long Island City, New York until her health failed her. She enjoyed socializing with neighbors, church members, her extended family, and the friends of her children and grandchildren. In her leisure, she enjoyed swimming, taking long walks, listening to Contemporary Jazz and having long discussions about history, culture, global news and current events.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, acts of kindness, grace, legacy of strength, perseverance and never ending love to her children Lamont Wolfe of Bronx, NY; daughters Georgia Rosa of Bronx, NY, Lynn Wolfe of Atlanta, GA, Sandra Wilcher of Miami, FL, Debbie Wolfe Wynn of Corona, NY, Vanessa Wolfe of Woodside, NY and George Wolfe Jr. of Long Island City, NY.
