With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Luis A. Piñeros Abadia, who left us on July 1, 2025, at the age of 76. Luis was born on January 24, 1949, in Cartago, Colombia, where he was raised in a close-knit family and surrounded by lifelong friends.
Luis later moved to New York City, where he built a life with his beloved wife, Maria J. Piñeros. Together, they raised five children: Edgar A. Piñeros, Viviana P. Piñeros, Veronica Piñeros, Lilia Z. Piñeros and their late son, Gustavo A Piñeros. The family made their home in Jackson Heights, where they shared a joyful and loving life filled with laughter and strong family bonds.
Luis believed deeply in the opportunities America had to offer. He not only embraced them for himself but also helped many extended family members immigrate and find a better life. He worked tirelessly, even through illness, always prioritizing the well-being of his family.
A man of incredible resilience, Luis came from humble beginnings, working on a cotton farm in Colombia as a young man. He cared for his parents, Luis A. Piñeros and Teresa De Jesus Piñeros, both of whom have preceded him in death. After settling in New York, he spent years working long hours in a factory, motivated by his dream to give his children a better future. His example taught us the values of love, sacrifice, and hard work.
Luis was a devoted father, a cherished grandfather, and a source of joy to many. He was a proud grandfather to Tatiana N. Piñeros, Jessenia O. Roberts, and Milton A. Piñeros —his grandchildren were the light of his life and always managed to brighten his days.
He will be remembered for his warmth, his sense of humor, and his love of family. Whether he was cracking jokes that only a few understood or simply enjoying time with those he loved, Luis brought people together. As the oldest, he often took on the role of protector and leader within the family, something we admired and appreciated deeply.
Luis leaves behind his four beloved children, his adored grandchildren, and two siblings: Lilia Piñeros and Gonzalo L. Piñeros He is also survived by his loving in-laws, including Hilda, Maria, Floyd, and Louis, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends whom he loved dearly and who loved him in return.
Luis’s legacy of love, perseverance, and dedication to family lives on in all of us. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Though you're no longer with us, your spirit lives on in the laughter, love, and cherished memories we hold dear."
