Athena was born in Danielson, Connecticut but raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She moved to Brooklyn, New York, when she got married and later moved to Providence, Rhode Island. This matriarch was a dedicated and devoted wife, mother, as well as grandmother. Athena “Tina” was a seamstress and worked as a clerical worker for Danecraft in Providence for many years. Her greatest accomplishment, by far, was the relentless dedication and care that she gave to her severely handicapped son George. She was a shining example of a mother’s unconditional love. Upon retirement, the family relocated to Marietta, Georgia. Athena played an integral part in the early years of holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Marietta, Georgia. She was in the choir and a volunteer in the ladies auxiliary, Philoptochos.
Due to her advanced age, Athena was preceded in death by many of her friends. She found your friendship a great blessing and comfort to her. We believe that she will be reunited with all her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Until we meet again may her memory be eternal. We will miss “Yiayia”.
