

Bill had a passion for airplanes, and at the age of 15 got a job at the local airport stacking planes to pay for flying lessons. He earned his pilot’s license before he received his driver’s license. Bill was a proud veteran who served his country in the US Navy, US Air Force and US Marine Reserves. He attended college at the University of West Virginia and in 1951 married Gloria Jean Householder.
Bill worked at Lockheed Martin and Rockwell Industries as an Aerospace Engineer for over 40 years. He was instrumental in designing the C141, C5A, SR71 Blackbird which is a supersonic reconnaissance plane, the NASP National Aero Space Plane, as well as various other Top Secret projects.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hiking, biking, canoeing. In his late 60’s Bill biked 184 miles on the C&O Canal and also hiked a good portion of the Appalachian Trail. But most of all, Bill loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and sharing Christs blessing of salvation with others.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jean Kettering of Acworth; children, Bill Kettering and his wife, Kathy, of Marietta, David Kettering and his wife, Jackie, of Acworth, Debbie Robinson and her husband, Gordon, of Talking Rock, Pam Carter and her husband, Gary, of Acworth and Paul Kettering and his wife, Carol, of Acworth; grandchildren, Damon, Travis, Luke, Brandee, Jared, Joshua, Justin, Jacob, Jason, Heather and Matt; 20 great grandchildren; and his dog, "Peanut."
Bill's family will receive friends on Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Woodstock Funeral Home 8855 Main Street Woodstock, GA 30188. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday at the Reece Memorial Chapel at Woodstock Funeral Home. A Committal Service will follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Gardens 4355 Highway 92 Acworth, GA 30102.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's honor to Genesis Ministries 262 Hawkins Store Road Kennesaw, GA 30144 or on their website at www.genesisministries.org. Genesis Ministries is dedicated to "solving substance abuse through Christ."
