Eugene Leo Smith

Gene was born in Ambridge, PA. to Leo and Sabina Smith. He had three sisters, Ruth, Eleanor, and Marcy. At the young age of 17, Gene joined the Navy. On August 21,1950, he married Shirley Hicks and they raised three children, Linda, Lee, and Lori. They had an amazing 70- year marriage.

PapPap had two passions, family, and golf. He had a large family of 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, which he loved dearly. As an avid golfer, he participated in six Senior Olympics and at the age of 92 he won the silver medal, one of many.

He was a kind and compassionate man who was loved, admired, and respected by everyone who knew him. He was a role model to many and loved family with all his heart.

A funeral mass for Gene will be held Friday, September 10, 2021, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 1815 Blackwell Rd., Marietta, GA 30066.

Following mass, a reception will be held in celebration of PapPap’s life at Lori and Keith Kohlier’s home, 1493 Scarlet Ct. NE, Kennesaw, GA.
