

Gary, or "Ace," as he was fondly known, was a proud fireman, soldier, and dedicated family man. He resided in Ridgefield, CT for most of his life before moving to Georgia in 1986. In his younger days you may have seen him perform with the "Piggies" in Ridgefield. He cherished his friendships and was highly respected by all who knew him.
Gary served in the U.S. Army from 1975 to 1978 and continued his service in the Army Reserves from 1989 to 2008. His commitment to his country and fellow veterans was unwavering. In addition to his military service, Gary had many successful and fulfilling careers as a Fireman/EMT/IV, Logistics Manager for Ryder, and Cobb County DOT - Drainage Division Maintenance Supervisor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Phyllis, his children Tiffany Pron (Bill) of Acworth, GA, Gary Pongetti, Jr. (Ginger) of Dallas, GA, and siblings Linda Jennings, Carol Sousa (Brian), Judy Cassidy (Harry), Chris Pongetti, as well as grandchildren Bailey Pron, Rylie Padgett, Billy Pron, Aydree Pron, Michael Pongetti, Alexander Pongetti, Vincent Pongetti, Joseph Pongetti and nieces, nephews, and friends. Gary was predeceased by his father Adrian Pongetti, mother Joan Pongetti, and mother-in-law Betty Boucher.
Gary's hobbies included drinking Italian red wine, creating music playlists, cooking his family's traditional Italian dishes, golfing with his son and son in law, fishing with friends, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, and attending car shows and concerts. He also enjoyed antiquing and shark tooth hunting with his wife at the beach.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Woodstock Funeral Home 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia, 30188, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. The committal will take place at Georgia National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in honor of SFC Gary Pongetti.
Woodstock Funeral Home in Woodstock, GA, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
