EE George (Gene), 67, of Acworth, GA, passed away December 10, 2014. He was born on January 31, 1947 in Atlanta, GA. Gene was a good provider for his wife, Peggy and two lovely daughters, Angela Riess and Michelle Durham, as well as, a delight to his five grandchildren: Daniel, Andrew and Ben Riess; Trey and McKenzie Durham.
Gene was an avid deer hunter and a lackadaisical fisherman. Anyone who knew him, knew Gene loved deer hunting to the extreme. He would tell you if it wasn’t hunting season, he would go fishing. He truly loved the outdoors.
He also loved his job. He said many times he had the best job in the world and he loved to go to work everyday. He was a locomotive engineer with Norfolk Southern for over 35 years. In November of 2005, Gene retired with a disability that would no longer allow him to enjoy his perfect job.
So he entered retirement with the same enthusiasm he has had for everything that life has thrown him. He would be the first to tell you everyday, “I’m blessed the best”, and he thanked God everyday for that thing. He will be missed greatly by those who knew him best. There will not be one day at the lake on the tube, or one day in the woods hunting that we will not say, “Man I wish Grandpa was here, he would love that”.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Woodstock Christian Church. Interment will follow at Macedonia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 5-7pm at Woodstock Funeral Home.
