

Dr. James William O’Hara, Jr. passed away surrounded by family on March 17, 2012. He was born in Miami, Florida on September 11, 1929 to Marion Louise Sackett O’Hara and James William O’Hara, Sr. Jim and his wife, Elizabeth McCoy O’Hara were married for 58 years and had four children. They were an Air Force family that lived all over the country and in Europe. After serving 25 years in the Air Force Dental Corps and retiring as a Colonel, Jim worked as a Professor of Dentistry at the University of Mississippi Dental School in Jackson, Mississippi, where he served as Dean of Academic Studies. Throughout his career, Jim obtained several degrees, including a B.S. in Medical Sciences from the University of Alabama, Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Science in Dentistry (M.S.D.) from George Washington University. He also attended the Air Force War College. At the University of Alabama, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Upon retirement from the University of Mississippi Dental School, Jim and Elizabeth moved to Woodstock to be closer to their children. Jim loved spending time with family and friends, visiting the family’s cabin in North Georgia and playing bridge. Jim is survived by his wife Elizabeth McCoy O’Hara of Woodstock, daughter Marion Lister and son-in-law Tony Lister of Marietta, daughter, Laura Johnson and son-in-law Scott Johnson of Woodstock, son, James O’Hara and daughter-in-law Victoria O’Hara of Houston, TX, and son William O’Hara and daughter-in-law Jessica O’Hara of Peachtree City. Jim also enjoyed time with his grandchildren, Jennifer Lister Rasmussen and husband James Jordan Rasmussen of Minneapolis, MN, Rache O'Hara and Ryan O’Hara of Peachtree City, Ashley O'Hara and Sean O’Hara of Houston, TX and his two great-grandchildren, Knox Rasmussen and Dax Rasmussen of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Being a true Irishman, Jim passed away on St. Patrick’s Day. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, March 19th, at the Woodstock Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Woodstock Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 20th, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery.
