Jean Thornton Lucas

Jean Thornton Lucas, 68, mother to Elizabeth, Kathryn, and Melissa, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at her home in Marietta, GA. Jean was born on June 6, 1957, in Birmingham, AL, and was the second youngest of five children to Willard Parks Griffith and Polly Sue McAnnally Griffith.

She spent her early years in Alabama before moving throughout the country and eventually settling in Woodstock, GA, which became her long-term home. Jean enjoyed a successful career before becoming a stay-at-home mom after her third child. Later, she returned to school to earn her associate’s degree, rejoined the workforce, and retired at age 65.

Jean will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, acceptance, and deep devotion to her family. She found happiness spending time with her daughters, especially going for walks outdoors. Her encouraging words made people feel they could achieve anything if they set their minds to it. All who knew her will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Polly Griffith; her brother, Robert Griffith; and her sister, Jan Griffith.

Surviving her are her beloved daughters and their families: Elizabeth and Brent Jacobs; Kathryn, Desmond, Damon, and Kalli Lamb; Melissa, Lauren, and Darby Thornton; her sister Sue Hamer and niece Shannon Hellen; her twin sister Joan Griffith Pell and niece Sarah Anderson.

A Celebration of Life will take place May 2, 2026, at Azalea Park Pavilion #2 (203 Azalea Dr, Roswell, GA 30075). The family will welcome friends from 1 to 5 pm ET, with memories shared at 2:30 pm ET. You’re invited to share a memory or condolence either at the park or through the funeral home website.

As Spring reminds us that life continues to bloom and begin again, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests a tree or memorial garden donation in Jean’s honor. We would love to nurture the garden together as a family, a living reminder of the love she shared so freely.
