John Louis Dietrich was born in Milwaukee, WI on July 14, 1933 the son of Mary and Arthur Dietrich. At the age of 92, he was born to eternal life on March 1, 2026.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia, and their children: Diane Pelzek (John), Joan Comrie (Geo), Richard Dietrich, Robert Dietrich (Lillie), and Carol Gensch (Rich). He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Katie, Rachel, Amy, Christopher, Nicholas, Sarah, Madison, Hailey, Andrew, and Megan, and by one great-grandson, Mark Brooks.
Truly, John’s greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. He spent countless hours on the floor with them when they were young, playing, joking, and making them laugh. In the last moments of his blessed life, it was his grandchildren who could put the light back in his eyes and the loving smile to his face. Nothing brought him more happiness than the joy, energy, and love they brought into his life.
John proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. His sense of service continued well beyond his military years. He was once featured in the newspaper for donating the one-millionth pint of blood, a remarkable reflection of his lifelong generosity and unwavering desire to help others.
He built a long and respected career as an accountant, known for his integrity, diligence, and steady work ethic.
John was perhaps best known for his dry sense of humor and his love of sports. As a young man, he could always be found at the basketball court, on the baseball diamond, or on the football field alongside his friends and his big brother, Kenny. He competed in numerous city championships for both St. Rose of Lima and the St. John’s Cathedral in Milwaukee. Once he became a father, he continued his passion for athletics by attending as many, if not all, of the sporting events of his children and, later, his grandchildren.
A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, John could recall statistics from memory and delighted in sharing his knowledge of the game with anyone willing to listen. Whether through a quick-witted comment or a spirited conversation about football, he had a gift for bringing
smiles to those around him. He proudly passed his love for the Packers on to his children and grandchildren and loved watching with all on Sunday afternoons.
A service for John will be Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church, 11330 Woodstock Road, Roswell, Georgia, 30075. Following the service, John will be laid to rest with military honors the same day at 3:00 PM at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia, 30114.
John will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, his strong work ethic, his generous heart, and the quiet humor that made him uniquely himself. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and in the many lives he touched.
