Joseph Leopold Dziwoki “Joe” passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 14th, 2022, at his home in Woodstock, Georgia. He was 91 years old. Joe was born September 30, 1931, in Radlin, Poland to Emil and Maria (Rduch) Dziwoki. He had one sister, Zyta, and three brothers, Henryk, Gwidon, and Lother.
Joe had an event-filled life that shaped him into a strong, disciplined, and faithful man. At 14 years of age during World War II, Joe was separated from his family in Poland for what would be the rest of his life. He was abducted by German troops which began a series of adventures in Europe, including imprisonment by the Soviets, suffering a severe shrapnel wound to the head, travelling as a self-proclaimed teenaged “hobo” throughout Europe, and eventually graduating high school while in a camp for misplaced youth.
In 1951, Joe met his now wife, Lydie Lacz, at a café in Metz France. In 1956, they emigrated to the United States, and he joined the U.S. Army in 1957. Joe retired as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW4) after 30 years of service, which included two tours in Vietnam and numerous assignments across the U.S. and in Korea. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, playing tennis, and studying politics and world affairs.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife Lydie Dziwoki, his sons Hughes Oliver Dziwoki and Allan Joseph Dziwoki, five granddaughters, and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Joseph will be held Friday, June 24, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr, Canton, GA 30114.
