

Joe was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 27th, 1959, to Thomas Richard Hopson Sr. and Jean Ann Higgins Hopson. He was the fourth child of six children and grew up surrounded by siblings who remained close throughout his life. He attended Wheeler High School before beginning his career at Thomas R. Hopson Broker, Inc in Marietta, GA.
Later, Joe moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he founded and operated his own marine construction company. Through dedication and determination, he built a successful business and eventually retired to enjoy the life he had worked so hard for—spending his days on the golf course and embracing the Florida sunshine.
He is survived by his children, Brittany Hopson Montgomery (Michael Montgomery) and their daughter Lenora “Lenny” Jean Montgomery; Bradley Earl Hopson (Stephanie Hopson) and their son Alexander Jett Hopson; and Lauryn Rebecca Hopson.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Richard Hopson Sr. and Jean Ann Higgins Hopson. He is also survived by his siblings: Thomas Richard Hopson Jr. (Susan Hopson), Steven Michael Hopson, Kathleen Ann Williams (Ken Williams), Daniel Allen Hopson (Tracy Hopson), and David Bryan Hopson (Lisa Hopson).
A visitation and service will be held on January 17, 2026, visitation beginning at 9:00 AM followed by a service at 11:00 AM at Woodstock Funeral Home in Woodstock, GA.
A Celebration of Life will take place on January 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Seminole Lake Country Club in Seminole, Florida.
Joe’s legacy lives on through the family he loved, the life he built, and the many memories shared by those fortunate enough to know him.
A visitation will be held on January 17, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Woodstock Funeral Home, Inc., located at 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, Georgia, 30188.
The funeral service will follow on the same day at 11:00 am at the same location.
Joseph will be laid to rest on January 17, 2026, at 1:00 pm
