Forever in Our Hearts
On September 4, 2021, Lucy G. Eisenhart, passed peacefully into Glory at home in Waleska,
Georgia. Lu was born on September 18, 1924 in Lincolnshire, England. At 18, Lu was conscripted
into the Royal Air Force to serve as a radio operator in World War II. During this time, she met an
American Air Force officer and after the war was married in England. In March, Lu boarded the
Saturnia, an Italian ocean liner that carried war brides across the ocean to America. The seas were
rough and she was sick most of the time. The ships' crew had to tie ropes to the staircases so
passengers could hold on while the ship heaved. They arrived in New York harbor on St. Patrick's
Day, March 17, 1946; where she observed people dressed in green with bands playing and a big
parade. She remembered neon lights and everything she saw seemed huge! A far cry from the
blackouts during the blitz in London.
Her new husband, Dale, met her at the dock and the ride to Toledo, Ohio seemed endless. She kept
asking, “Are we still in America?” On the way they stopped for tea and were served hot water with
a tea bag. She had never seen a tea bag before. On top of that, the tea was served in a mug with a
thick edge, nothing like the dainty tea cups she was accustomed to in England.
In the early days settling into life in America, Lu joined the British Bride's Group and belonging to
that group with women in similar circumstances made her adjustment easier. She gave birth to her
first child, Daniel, and when he was only 12 months old, Dale passed away suddenly of a brain
aneurysm. Lu's Father wanted her to come back to England but she knew her life with her son was
now in America. Just before Dale died he had painted a house for the Davies' family to make some
extra money. The Davies' family grew very fond of little Danny and took Lu and Danny under their
wing when Dale passed away. They lovingly cared for Danny while Lu worked at Ohio State Life
Insurance Company.
The Davies knew of a 'confirmed bachelor' named Al Eisenhart who worked for the Ohio Bell
Telephone Company. He was 32 and Lu was only 25. The Davies' family set up a blind date for them
and they had dinner together. They fell in love and were married about a year later on September
22, 1950. Susan, their daughter, was born in October of 1952.
Several years went by, and on the outside it appeared as if they had an idyllic life; a beautiful
home, family, friends; they were living the 'dream', but inside Lu felt a gnawing emptiness. There
had to be more to life. The social gatherings with friends were exciting and fun but when they
were over, the emptiness returned. One day she went upstairs to her bedroom and was drawn to a
keepsake box that she had brought from England. When she opened the box she picked up the
small New Testament that she was given by the padre in the Royal Air Force. She opened the Bible
and began to read in the Book of John. As Lu read, she felt an incredible connection with the words
she was reading. At that point she cried out to God. Lu spoke to Him like you would speak to
anyone and she simply said: “There must be more to life because I have everything anyone could
ever want but I still have a void in my life.” God revealed Himself to her that day and she came
downstairs with a new joy in her heart. It wasn't until the next day, when her husband Al
introduced her to a friend of his, Charlie, that Lu learned more. Charlie said, “Lu, you are a
christian!” She responded with, “I'm a what?” Charlie was able to share with her about Jesus and
explain the encounter she had the day before when she was reading her Bible. Lu never looked
back because her life was complete. Does that mean she never had troubles or heartaches? No, but
God was right beside her and that gave her the strength and peace she needed. She and Al began
attending the Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School to the young children. It was
through that experience that she learned the many stories in the Bible and her hunger for God and
His Word never waned.
Lu's greatest desire was to live her life to honor God, to do His Will, and to tell others about the
love of God. Lu loved to share what God did for her and what God could do for them if they would
receive the gift that Jesus offers to each one of us.
To receive that gift we must acknowledge our sin before God (Romans 3:23); ask God to forgive us,
admitting to God that we cannot save ourselves because it is impossible to be 'good enough' to get
to Heaven (Ephesians 2:8-9). It is only through Jesus' death on the Cross as the perfect sacrifice for
our sins that we can enter Heaven. The Bible says, if we do this, we can KNOW that one day when
we take our last breath on this Earth we will open our eyes in Heaven where there are no more
tears and no more suffering.
Will you receive Jesus' Free Gift of Salvation today? Do not wait...
Call out to God right now..He is listening....
Lu is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Franklin Eisenhart; her son, Daniel Edward Eisenhart;
and her sisters, Peggy, Joyce, and Laura. She is survived by her daughter Susan and her husband
Bill; her grandchildren Matt Murton (Stefani), Brandon Eisenhart, Sara Murton Bryan (Matt), Bradley
Eisenhart, and Luke Murton (Ashley); and her nine great-grandchildren Micah, Macie, John Mark,
Natalee, Andrew, Abigail, Daniel, Scarlett and James.
