Pat was born on November 21, 1941 in Atlanta, Georgia at the home of “Buck” and Sylgusta Myrick. One of 8 children, Pat grew up in Atlanta, walking everywhere she went and enjoying Grant Park, the Capital Building and the company of her closest sibling, Glenndle.
Pat married Robert W. “Bob” Barrett on June 24, 1961 and spent the next few years as the wife of a Naval officer, living in Rhode Island, Florida, and finally settling back in Georgia. Pat and Bob welcomed their first child, a son, Rob, in 1967 and then completed their family with the birth of their daughter Kathy in 1970.
Pat became interested in German Shepherds with the purchase of their first dog, Kaiser, in the mid-sixties, and wound up breeding Shepherds by the early 80’s. Her kennel, Telkontar, bred several champions and she enjoyed competitively showing her dogs. Pat made lasting friendships through the German Shepherd dog world, where she met her dearest friend, Joan Turner. Joan remained friends with Pat until the end.
Pat’s love of animals led her to attend grooming school and become a Certified Master Groomer, opening her own grooming salon, Clip ‘n’ Dip in the mid 80’s. She worked as a groomer until she retired to focus on spending time with her beloved family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, especially outside in the yard, or at Kennesaw Mountain, and later delighted in seeing her great-grandchildren and playing with them.
Left behind to cherish the memories of Pat are her daughter, Kathy; her granddaughter Savanna (her husband Will and their children Reagan and Mila), her grandson Skyelar, her granddaughter Sierra (her husband Huston and their son Jaxon and soon-to-be-daughter Jordyn) and her grandson Sterling (his wife Shannon); her heart-daughter Lisa; her sister Sue; her brother Frank (his wife Vickie); her sister-in-law Ruth; many nieces and nephews; her longtime friend Joan and a wealth of others who loved and treasured her. Pat is now reunited with her Husband Bob, her son Rob & daughter-in-law Michelle, and her son-in-law Charles, as well as her parents (Sylgusta and Buck), brothers (Jerry, Billy, and David) and sisters (Betty and Glenndle) who have gone before.
On Sunday, April 10, 2022 there will be a service to celebrate Pat’s life at 12:00pm in the chapel of Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main Street, Woodstock, GA 30188. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation in memory of Pat to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/.
