Rachel Brown Koers, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Wednesday October 21, 2020 at the age of 96. Rachel and her twin brother Raymond were born on August 21, 1924 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Gladys Brown Donovan and Henry Brown. After graduating from East High School, Rachel became a sportswear buyer for Castner Knott department store in Nashville, TN. She met a young salesman, Frank Koers, who was working for the Grove Company selling Thermo-Jac ladies’ apparel. They fell in love and were married at Christ The King Catholic Church on October 3, 1959. They briefly lived in Nashville before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, buying their first home and raising two daughters, Emilie and Julie. Rachel dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed sewing doll clothes, singing songs, cooking her favorite meals of meatloaf, fried chicken and salmon croquettes, baking her famous jam cake for the holidays, and volunteering at Girl Scouts and her children's schools. Rachel was a fighter and survived two bouts of breast cancer. She volunteered for many years with The American Cancer Society. She was elated when her four grandchildren were born, giving her the name “Gigi”. She loved attending their sporting events, school activities, dance competitions, music recitals, and volunteering in the cafeteria. Rachel loved all animals, especially her many fur babies she raised over the years and treated as her children. Rachel was predeceased by her husband Frank. She is survived by her two daughters, Emilie Petrovich and husband Steve and grandchildren Melissa, Austin & Brendan, all of Nashville,TN and Julie Shirey and husband Win of Hickory Flat, GA and granddaughter Claire. Visitation will be held at Woodstock Funeral Home in Woodstock, Georgia on Tuesday, October 27th from 5:00 – 7:00 with a Prayer dedication beginning at 6:30. She will be laid to rest, with her husband Frank, on Wednesday, October 28th at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
