In loving memory of Virginia Cathleen Van Syckle Mille, born on August 2, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, and departed from this world on February 8, 2024. It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to our cherished Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, who valiantly fought a prolonged battle with Huntington’s disease. We find solace in the belief that she now rests in the embrace of heaven, free from pain and suffering.
Virginia married George Mille, Jr. in 1958. They remained in Brooklyn and welcomed their son before moving to East Orange, New Jersey, where they then had a daughter. Virginia worked at Chemical Bank in Manhattan in her early career and did the unthinkable in those times by continuing to work while expecting. She moved to Colorado due to her husband’s transfer and joined him working at Johns-Manville, where she remained for nearly 30 years. She retired and moved to Georgia to be with her children and grandchildren in 2000.
Family, and those she loved, were always a priority for Virginia. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She can best be described best as devout, fiercely loyal, very independent, kind and sweet natured. She enjoyed traveling, including memorable cruises and a poignant journey to Europe to reunite with a dear friend in Switzerland, an experience she treasured dearly. She enjoyed an occasional glass of wine or margarita and loved to jitterbug back in her younger days.
Virginia was a devoted Lutheran who loved her church and at different times sang in choirs and taught Sunday school. Her spiritual journey was one of unwavering conviction and steadfast resolve, with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Woodstock, Georgia, holding a special place in her heart. Fond memories also lingered from her time at Mt Zion Lutheran Church in Castle Rock, Colorado, and Timothy Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, NY. Her faith carried her with grace and confidence in her final days, and we are rejoicing that she is with her Lord and Savior and at peace.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Henrietta and John Van Syckle as well as her brother John Van Syckle, Jr. “Buddy”. She is survived by her two sisters, Etta (Ed) Piotrowski and Debby Faust, her loving children, Todd (Evelyn) Mille and Dawn (Dann) Adams, her cherished grandchildren, Derek (Vicky) West, Spencer Adams, Chase Adams, Autumn Mille, Aspen Mille, and Alex Mille, and her adored great-grandchildren, Danyelle Hunt and Charlotte West.
In honoring Virginia's memory, a service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Virginia loved flowers, but would have appreciated donations made in her honor to Good Shepherd Lutheran church https://gslutheran.org/donate
