Clay was born to the late Ernest Augustus Hogge and the late Mae Augusta Ward Hogge on June 19, 1950 in Washington D.C. He was one of two sons who shared in their Scottish and Irish heritage. He was gifted musically and played guitar in his first band, “Tom Collins and the Mixers.”
Clay was intelligent, methodic and passionate in all things. He enjoyed learning as a student and sharing that knowledge with others. He had a Bachelor’s in Science and Sociology from Florida State University, Master’s in Public Administration from Florida State University and a Master’s in Computer Science from Polytech (currently known as Kennesaw State University).
Clay used his background to obtain a position for the engineering company, Wayne Colony, in Tallahassee. While in Florida, he met the love of his life, Michele Cicchetti, and the two were married on October 1, 1983. In addition to Wayne Colony, Clay also held positions for Bealls, IBM, Mapics and Curbstone. His career as an IBM computer engineer led him to move to Atlanta, Georgia. Their family grew to include two beautiful daughters, Liz and Lauren, and they settled in Woodstock, Georgia into their golden years.
Clay was a humble servant of the Lord and was a member of Hillside United Methodist Church. He found joy in working tirelessly for the church may it be operating the soundboard during Sunday services, mission work with Forever Fed and his unwaivering dedication regardless of the elements.
Clay enjoyed games and helping others achieve their potential. He and Michele played Trivia and Bridge together with family and friends. Clay was also an excellent chess player. He supported others learning chess by always giving his best, providing insight and showing how important it is to lose gracefully. In life, Clay held truth to be one of the most important things that you can share with others – his truth was that he loved his family, the Lord and being kind.
Clay is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mae Hogge; brother, Joseph “Joe” Ernest Hogge and his wife, Loretta; and son in law, Phillip Woods. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 39 years, Michele Cicchetti Hogge; daughters, Elizabeth “Liz” Marie Hogge and Lauren Michele Hogge and her husband, Rodolfo Conte Brufatto; granddaughters, Gemma Elizabeth Woods (age 6) and Cora Michele Woods (age 4); niece, Monika Hogge; nephew, David Hogge and his wife, Yelena; and many extended family members and friends.
