on Wednesday June 5th, 2024 at the age of 85. Charley lived a life deeply rooted in his Catholic
faith, exemplifying the virtues of love, compassion, generosity, and steadfast devotion.
Charley was born to Charles and Loretta Pyles on September 6th, 1938 in Lawrenceburg,
Indiana. Charley grew up in Clintonville, Ohio and attended Immaculate Conception Grade
School and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He served six years in the Ohio
National Guard. After a blind date set up by his sister, he married his wife of 58 years, Sue
(Blantz) Pyles.
He started working in the factory making appliances for Westinghouse, and after several
promotions became the National Sales Manager for Frigidaire before retiring in 2001. With his
best friend and business partner, Jimmy Ryan, he owned and managed the North and South
Heidelbergs on High Street, along with many other properties and businesses through the
years.
Charley bought his first boat at 17 and has loved the water ever since, skiing for the last time
when he was 70 years old. Charley also loved playing golf, especially with family, friends, and
clients. He even taught his grandchildren to play. After retirement, Charley and Sue became
‘snowbirds,’ spending the winter months in Naples, Florida. He recruited several friends to join
them there! Most of all, Charley loved his daughters, “Charley’s Angels” and his wife, “Sweet
Sue.”
Charley is survived by his wife, Sue Pyles; sister Nancy Turner; three daughters Sally (Mark)
Nelson, Susan (Mike) Orlando, Sharon (Dave) Deerwester; and six grandchildren Nicole and
Brian Nelson; Mario Orlando; Caleb, Elise, and Sara Deerwester.
Charley was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Pyles, and his brother-in-law
Robert Blantz.
Charley will be especially remembered for playing the ukulele and singing to his family. He
never met a stranger and was always quick to lend a helping hand. He complimented and
encouraged others every day. Charley was always upbeat, positive, and ready with a joke or a
funny story to make the whole room laugh. He truly lived the American Dream and made the
world a better place for all who knew him, especially his family and close friends.
The family will receive friends and family Monday, June 10 from 9:30-10:30 AM at Schoedinger
Worthington Funeral Home, 6699 N. HIgh Street, with a funeral Mass immediately following at
11:30 AM at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N. High Street.
