She was born in Montreal, Quebec on January 18, 1943, and was adopted by Victor and Stella Calcat. After graduating high school at age 16, she trained and worked as a legal secretary—something she was extremely proud of.
In 1964 Connie married Norman Kaune in Detroit, Michigan, where he was stationed with the Air Force. They were married for 57 years before Norm passed in 2021. Together, they raised two sons—Christopher and Patrick.
She took pride in being a mother of two boys and being Norman’s wife. Connie was an avid reader, and constantly crocheted and knitted gifts for her friends and children that are still around today. She enjoyed traveling with Norman all around that United States and Europe as well. Connie cherished being a part of Zion Lutheran Church congregation in Howard, Ohio. She had a talent for finding special gifts for her family at birthdays, but especially at Christmas.
Connie never hesitated to speak out when she felt something was wrong. She was fiercely independent and outspoken on ideas she believed in.
Connie is survived by her two sons, Christopher of Columbus, and Patrick (Jetta) of Hilliard. She enjoyed being a grandma to her four grandchildren: Juliet, Paige, Audrey and Liam. She also is survived by her brother-in-law and friend, Alan Tweedy.
A celebration of Connie’s life will be held on October 9th, 10:00am at the Worthington Shoedinger Funeral Home, 6699 N. High Street.
