Evelyn Reta Sanders, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and compassionate nurse, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on July 5, 1927, the second of four daughters, to Ernest and Berttie Caldwell. Evelyn lived a life dedicated to the care and well-being of others, retiring as a recovery room nurse at Riverside Methodist Hospital after 25 years. Her gentle presence and unwavering kindness left a lasting impact on her family, patients and colleagues alike.
Evelyn was known not only for her nursing skill but also for her incredible talents in sewing and baking. She delighted family and friends with her lovingly crafted clothing, and delicious homemade pies that became cherished traditions. Her talents were expressions of her care and creativity, and her generosity touched the lives of many.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. Sanders, with whom she shared a life filled with love and devotion for 68 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughters, Sandy Sanders and Pam (Jeff) Tremaine. Evelyn was a proud grandmother to Todd (Cherie) Sanders, Tyler (Angela) Tremaine and Jessica (Charlie) Shuster, and a doting great-grandmother to her cherished great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Nicholas Sanders; Talan, Evelyn, and Lawrence Tremaine; and Charlie, Loralei, and Sam Shuster.
Evelyn’s warmth, wisdom, and strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, family, and service, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A family graveside service was held at Union Cemetery on November 14, 2024.
